The largest encounter for both Japanese and Australian Forces,
also the main forces clashed on the track.
The battle was fought in the village of Isurava, Australian forces were here because they were retreating the trail because they felt that the Japanese forces were flanking them and would eventually cut them off.
They recently lost a position in Deniki, the 38th Battalion were the only Australian unit challenging the Japanese before this battle, the faced them on the 14th August 1942 at night, which left them poorly equipped, the Battalion had to dig small trenches with their bayonets, beef tins and helmets. Meanwhile the Japanese were firing artillery shells from a distance to give their troops an upperhand and to catch the Australian forces off guard
